Before I set it off! Let us take a quick look into my “Fashion dictionary” to learn a few fashion words and know how to use them properly.
Chic I can’t begin to imagine how many times you may have heard this word but I am certain it is not a new word. When someone says to you “Hey You look chic today”, what would come to your mind? I am guessing a simple compliment? You guessed it right!
The word Chic is derived from a French word ‘chique’ which means skills and elegance but over the past decades, it has been used to mean a smart and stylish woman according to the chic fashionista website.
In recent days, Chic has been used to denote a fashionable person.
In a corporate environment, there are rules, a long list of them and there are also etiquettes.
I don’t think you want to be caught breaking these rules or found lacking. So let us talk about the dress code; what is allowed and what is a no-no.
There is a basic code for dressing in the corporate environment irrespective of what profession you are practicing.
- It has to look formal and neat
- No too many distractions – distractions can come in various types, from not knowing what suits your body type to wearing colour blocking combo, many pieces of jewelry and let us not forget flamboyant hairstyles.
- Must n’t be too casual. Business causal is allowed
- Revealing attires are a NO-NO
- The simple code is dress in a way that makes you look responsible.
When we talk corporate attire what comes to mind would be a matched suit and a conservative tie. Well, that has changed and I am about to show you how to play with workwear and still look responsible and trustworthy in a corporate firm.
First, you must know your body type – check out my post on knowing your body type https://smiliciousblog14.wordpress.com/2015/01/03/keep-it-classy-not-trashy/ to know what works for you. Whatever you do with your attire part of your goals is to be comfortable.
The Classy Gowns – a good ol’ fitted dress can never go out of fashion. Go for the fitted gowns (not spandex material) and keep it simple your look has already been decided all you ever have to do is get a nice dress that fits your body shape and put it on. A nice pair of heels will even “elevate” your look.
A well-fitted dress will give you confidence than showing a whole lot of cleavage. Do you want to be taken seriously in the corporate world? avoid showing too much skin.
The Pants Lovers – Wear your regular pant/trouser with a peplum top.
The peplum top will give your combination a whole new stylish look yet formal. More like doing the same thing differently.
Still, on trousers try something sleek like a high waist trouser with your normal Button-down shirt tucked in, and you would look splendid.
Wear a cardigan on top your Button-down shirt to reveal only the shirt collar and match with a nice pair of trousers. when trying this combination remember, wear a lighter colour under the cardigan, like in the white and green picture below. You can stay in same colour family for the pant or just match with a contrasting colour.
Print pants are also okay when matched with blazers – keep the prints down and a plain colour blazer.
Or reverse it, wear a printed top and match with a plain colour pant.
Remember shoes are important too. it completes your look. check out my post about foot wearshttps://smiliciousblog14.wordpress.com/2015/01/31/shoetivity/
Skirts are lovely when you style them properly.
You can match your Skirt and turtleneck or high-neck top, or match with your regular button-down shirt but put a scarf around your neck to make it look chic.
Accordion Skirt can be worn with a turtleneck.
Pencil skirt and a sweater top are also good for work when it is cold. Pencil skirt worn with a cardigan is an effortless way of pulling off a chic look in a corporate environment.
just try this effortlessly chic look, you will love it. it is so comfy, in a class of its own and also formal.
Kimono and skirt is also a perfect combination. if you are a risk-taker all you need to do is remain in the same colour family if it is blue choose deep blue down and keep the lighter shades of same colour up. Again this style is not good for all body shape, works well for a slim silhouette.
The good old suit skirt can be funky too, just wear same colour family ladies shit inside and turn up the sleeve pop the collar.
Palazzo Pants can go to work too but you must make it look corporate with a shirt, stay in calm colours, black, brown, white.
Match with fitted tops, shirts, and blouse
LOL, of course not with your rack on full display!
Looking chic doesn’t require you spending high, or wearing the latest and hottest outfit. I am sure you have many that I have mentioned above all you need do is match it appropriately.
