The Agonizing Story of George Stinney

I saw a very disturbing video ( re-enacted) of how a 14-year-old boy was executed in the electric chair in 1944.

Although it happened 75 years ago when racism was in its “hot peak”  this video and story made me sick to my stomach and surely teared me up.

According to a Wikipedia page, George was an African-American teenager wrongfully convicted at age 14 of the murder of two girls ages 7 and 11 in 1944 in his hometown of Alcolu, South Carolina. He was arrested and detained for nearly 83 days, without the possibility of seeing his parents. He was questioned without the presence of an attorney. His trial lasted for about two and a half hours, the jury took only ten minutes to deliberate after which they returned with a guilty verdict. To say the least.

It is sad!! three families were destroyed in Alcolu, South Carolina in 1944.  Families of the 11-year-old Betty June Binnicker and 7-year-old Mary Emma Thames, Including the Stinneys.

What if? is what I kept on pondering after crying my eyes out.  Well, history cannot be erased or corrected, although the conviction has been vacated.

Like it or not racism is very much alive! so is racial profiling. I am not here to lecture or advocate. I only want us to take a pause and reflect!

In the present day, we can all do something differently! As much as you can, from your circle, office, pulpit, position, social media handle, elite gathering – always maintain that there is only one race which is HUMANITY!!!!!

I am sure if George has been seen as a human, he wouldn’t have been prosecuted in such a way!
